All English verbs form the past tense but in different ways. The verbs are divided into two groups – regular and irregular.
Regular verbs - these are the verbs which form the Past tense by adding -ed to the first form of the verb (the infinitive without the particle 'to')
Irregular verbs – these are the verbs which build their forms, not like the regular verbs. There are no rules for irregular verbs - these verbs have to be learned by heart.
