What happens when a hugely experienced architect takes on a huge property project to live in for themeselves?
Pier & Catherine, owners of Fabrica Architecture in London were advocates of the open plan life. Their two previous homes, both in East London had been classic open plan warehouse spaces. When kids arrived, the natural step was to stay local but take on a space that was slightly more family friendly but with the hope of weaving in some industrial aesthetic. This house was quickly snapped up. An ambitious project turning two conversion flats backing to one period home would perhaps be a daunting task but with his team, Pier set about pulling the place apart and re-assembling. Things just got better as they uncovered period features that had been hidden for years.
The addition of a cleverly installed bathroom suit stashed within the original roof void caps a house with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, home office, two formal reception rooms with diving doors (which were unearthed during the renovation) and a family sized reception kitchen that straddles the entire lower floor. The chic interior with Piers signature polished plaster wall finish doesn’t just end there. The re-fit was completed along with re-wiring, re-plumbing, new stairs and double glazed wood sash windows.
