Right-hander Nick Martinez, who started out with the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters in 2018 and joined the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks in the offseason, wins his third consecutive decision with his 15th consecutive quality start in a 9-0 blowout of the Saitama Seibu Lions at Fukuoka PayPay Dome on Sept. 29. Martinez fires six scoreless inning, handcuffing the Lions on four hits with two walks and three Ks, and Nobuhiro Matsuda’s two-run blast, his 300th career longball, caps a four-run outburst in the third inning that provides all the offense the Hawks would need to win their fourth straight.
