I have ridden these popular GP 5000 tires for 8000 km and I thought I would make a review and share my experience.
They come in 5 versions from 23mm to 32mm, and they cost somewhere around 40-50$ per tire. At least in Europe.
I have the 25mm version on my bike. The weight for this version is 215 grams/tire.
My weight is 75 kilograms and I ride with 6.5 bars on the front and 7 bars on the rear tire.
I live in a hilly area, and all my rides have some elevation gain. I don’t know if riding in a flatter area could add more life to these tires, but I feel like this is something worth mentioning.
The tires have 2 small wear marks, and once you can't see them anymore, it's time to replace them.
On my rear tire those marks are gone, and you can see the threads, so my guess is I may have pushed the rear tire a little over its limits. The front tire looks like it can be pushed a little more as the marks can still be seen, however I made a habbit to change both tires at the same time, and that's what I am gonna do with these as well.
Where I live, there are a lot of debris and foreign objects on the side of the road, so there are multiple cuts and marks of different sizes on the tires.
I had to patch the rear tire from the inside in two places as the cuts were a little bigger than usual, and I was afraid something sharp will get in there and puncture the inner tube. This worked like a charm, and never had any problems.
I had 3 flats, and only 1 flat was caused by the tire itself being punctured, the other two by some questionable inner tubes from Decathlon. All of the flats happened on the rear tire, so the front tire is untouched.
These tires have an exceptional grip, great puncture protection and very low rolling resistance. When cornering you really feel the grip sticking you to the road. On dry condtitions these are perfect.
On wet I’ve not ridden that much. However, I got caught by a few rains and never had any problems with the grip. I slipped once on a wet railroad track, it was a little scary, but luckily I didn't crash. Anyway, I suspect there are surfaces where you could slip even in dry conditions, so can’t blame the tire in this situation.
I keep trying to find something bad to say about these tires, but I can't. They are just great. The low rolling resistance, great cornering, excellent puncture protection, low weight and very good grip, make this the perfect road bike tire. At least for me. And it seems I am not the only one who loves them, as all my buddies that I ride with use the same tires.
