Zak Kirkup has conceded the Western Australia state election and has left politics for good in an emotional concession speech made in the Liberal HQ.
“This was always going to be a very tough election for the Liberal Party, I am well aware that when I took over the leadership some 16 weeks ago it would be a challenge,” he said.
“Over the next four years with a very small number of members we must do all we can to hold Labor to account.”
Mr Kirkup said he was also resigning from politics and the Liberal Party completely, a party he has been in since 2004.
“I will not continue in parliamentary politics, I will not continue to seek office, the reality is I think it’s important we rebuild the party as best as we can and from my perspective it means I will no longer seek office for the Liberal Party.”
