2005 was another year when the J.League title
was decided on the final day of the season. Five teams, JEF United Chiba (56pts), Kashima Antlers (56pts),
Urawa Reds (56pts), Gamba Osaka (57pts) & Cerezo Osaka (58pts), all had the chance to win the J.League title, and so all that
each team could do was win and hope it would be enough. Gamba Osaka (white), had to beat Kawasaki Frontale (blue & black)
and hope their bitter rivals Cerezo Osaka slipped up against FC Tokyo to have any chance of winning
their first J.League title in their history...
After hearing that Cerezo Osaka had only managed
to draw against FC Tokyo, Gamba Osaka’s win over Kawasaki Frontale meant they were crowned champions, finishing just one point ahead on 60pts.
