Eight Strand Plaited Loaf was the second technical challenge in The Great British Bake Off (GBBO) Season 3. This is Paul Hollywood's Recipe. Plaited loaves look fabulous and provide lots of lovely golden crust - perfect for serving with soup. This is a great bread to make for a festive occasion.

I was so inspired by GBBO that I wanted to try all the technical challenge recipes. Here is third season, second episode.
GBBO S03E02 - Bread week - Paul Hollywood's Eight Strand Plaited Loaf.
Ingredients
-----------
500g/1lb 2oz strong bread flour
7g sachet fast action dried yeast
10g/¼oz fine salt
1½ tbsp olive oil
extra flour for dusting
sunflower oil for greasing bowl
1 free-range egg, beaten lightly with a pinch of salt
pinch salt
The bread should be nice even plait all the way to the end. It should have nice crust with rich color on the top after baking and a crumb stucture that springs back into shape if touched.
The original recipe uses the following technique: 8u7o1; 8o5, 2u3o8; 1o4; 7u6o1 and repeat steps 2 to 5 till end.
I have used the following technique that I got from another youtube video: 8o1; 2o8; 1o5; 7o1; 8o5 and repeat steps 2 to 5 till end.
How to read this: 8u7o1 = 8 under 7 over 1; u = under, o=over.
