Installing Ubuntu desktop on VMWare Fusion for the Mac. With only a few minor differences, this covers Ubuntu 12.04LTS and Ubuntu 14.04LTS on VMWare Fusion versions 4, 5 and 6. The first installation splash screen on Fusion 6 is slightly different; make sure "Install from disc or image" is selected, click Continue, and the rest proceeds basically the same.

Tip: Once installed, each time you log in to the desktop, first click on the Ubuntu icon in the password/login box and select Unity 2d. This will provide better performance in the Virtual Machine environment.
