There's a blood test that can detect ovarian cancer early before it becomes too advanced for treatment.
CA125 is that blood test and raised CA125 levels can be a sign of ovarian cancer but can also be raised in other conditions such as endometriosis, fibroids and pregnancy.
CA125 can also be normal with ovarian cancer so if you have symptoms and you or the doctor suspect ovarian cancer, then you should be further investigated.
Ovarian cancer symptoms include abdominal bloating, urinary urgency, urinary frequency, weight loss, change in bowel habits such as diarrhoea and constipation, lower abdominal pain and fatigue.
A combination of CA 125 blood test and pelvic ultrasound can help in the early diagnosis of ovarian cancer.
