Yale University professor, historian, and author Elizabeth Hinton and Institute Director John Shaw discuss Hinton's research on poverty, racial inequality, and urban unrest in the U.S. and her forthcoming book, "America on Fire: The Untold Story of Police Violence and Black Rebellion Since the 1960s" (May 2021).
Hinton is a professor at Yale's Department of History, Department of African American Studies, and Law School, and is a leading expert in the United States on criminalization and policing. She also is the author of "From the War on Poverty to the War on Crime: The Making of Mass Incarceration in America" (2016).
