It's that time of the week again! This Why Pharmacy Wednesday, we are putting the spotlight on Claire Colgrove. She is a P3 on our Meridian campus. She was born and raised in Boise, and even bought her first house back in August!
Like many others, Claire says she always wanted to do something in the medical field. She says getting a job in 2014 at Albertsons Pharmacy helped her realize that she liked this field a lot and thought it would be a good career.
She also says, "When I first started working as a pharmacy technician 6 years ago I knew nothing about the field of pharmacy. I would consider the pharmacists I work with, Darrell Sterling (ISU Pharmacy Class of 1982) and Melissa Rudyi (ISU Pharmacy Class of 2010) as my mentors that inspired me to pursue pharmacy as a career. They have shown me how impactful pharmacists can be to their patients and have taught me what it means to be an advocate for the field of pharmacy."
When she is not doing arts and crafts like creating abstract paintings or painting ceramic figurines, Claire likes to participate in our Operation Diabetes events doing blood glucose and cholesterol screenings as well as helping out at our Operation Immunization at our drive up a go flu shot clinic earlier this year.
Claire's advice to anyone applying to the pharmacy program is to network with your fellow pharmacy students right away (even if they are on a different campus site). This way you can have a group of people to study with and help motivate each other as you go through the program and have solid connections as you move out into your career.
