Deciding which strings to play on an arpeggio might seem difficult for the beginner/ intermediate player. In this video I demonstrate the importance of playing the D, G and B strings as the focus of an arpeggio and also using the thumb on your root note on the E string or the A string.
I made this in the context of the G chord when playing the song Knocking on Heaven's Door, but it could apply to any arpeggio played in 4/4 with the root on the E or A string.
I show also in the video how the left hand shape can be reduced because of not playing certain strings. But remember, if you start strumming again, you need to put your left hand back into the normal chord shape covering all strings.
