After working on A/C systems, the same questions are coming up repeatedly about which and how much compressor oil should be used. You can choose from the following:
- PAG oil in various viscosities for R134a and R1234yf refrigerants
- POE oil is electrically insulating and, therefore, often used with hybrid and electric vehicles
- PAO 68 and PAO68 Plus UV can be mixed with or replace many other lubricants and refrigerants. Without a contrast agent, it can even be used with R1234yf refrigerant and electric air conditioning compressors.
While PAG and POE oils are hygroscopic, PAO 68 does not absorb moisture and can be stored almost indefinitely once opened.
