The pendulum has swung from a works doctrine to Antinomianism. We have created for ourselves a false god. We have allowed one of His attributes to supersede His other attributes. And this 'god' is now a utilitarian 'god'. The 'god' of American Christendom is our 'servant' we are not His. One of the most dangerous things any pastor can preach is that God is 'love' as a definitive statement because what the people hear is "I don't have to obey; God's going to love me anyway". We want so badly to convert people to Christianity that we tell them what their "itching ears want to hear". The 'god' of American Christendom is no longer holy, holy, holy, but He's love, love, love. Allowing one of God's attributes to negate the others we have lost the God of Holy Writ. May God grant us a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in our knowledge of Him.
