OK Queen Bees....here are my general thoughts related to Arteza:
Here is a TLDR: Arteza acrylic paints are for people who are just getting started with their art and who don't want to worry about their budget. Practice is a huge requirement in growing as an artist, and you shouldn't feel restricted if the paints you have are super expensive. Hence why Arteza fills this need nicely. They are affordable and offer you a HUGE selection of high pigmented paints to choose from. Plus, their mixed media paper is AMAZING! If you are a more seasoned artist, I would NOT buy these paints.
(LONG WINDED VERSION) When it comes to acrylics, I get pretty picky. I want something that is affordable, will last me a long time, and will help me get better with my artwork. When Arteza sent me this 24 acrylic set, I had some pretty high hopes. In some ways, Arteza exceeded my expectations. Their presentation and tube organization was unlike anything I had ever seen. The paint texture is like runny toothpaste - which is AWESOME for spreadability and painting in general.
Plus, I LOVED their mixed media paper set. It felt thick and the paper quality just felt good in my hands. My brushes loved it and the paint spread very nicely. If anything good came out of this review, it was this mixed media set for sure!
Back to the acrylics....
The BIGGEST pitfall however came to their Light Fastness. I confirmed with Arteza that they do in fact follow ASTM standards for permanence, and the majority of the paints in the 24 pack were listed as "+++" which means they are a ASTM III standard. These paint colors will only last you a good 15-50 years. HUGE BUMMER!
This leads me to my next point of who this paint is intended for. If you are a beginner artist, who is strapped or on a tight budget, these paints are a great choice for you. You can practice, play with a wide range of paint, and get your feet wet.
BUT, since these paints won't last you a long time in color, you cannot really use these for more professional applications. The closest these paints come to professional standards is if you use them for your underpainting, where light permanence won't be a factor. Otherwise, I would suggest looking elsewhere for your professional, premium acrylics.
Having 24 acrylic colors is nice, but as a beginner, that can be completely overwhelming. You really only need 6 colors (lemon yellow, yellow ochre, scarlet red, crimson, ultramarine blue, cerulean blue) plus mars black and titanium white.
Also, just in case you were wondering, here are my Arteza Acrylic Paint scores based on the tests I conducted in this video:
Box Organization & Presentation: 5/5
Light Permanence Rating: 1/5
Opacity Test: 5/5
Color Swatch Test: 3/5
Blendability/Usability Test: 4/5
Mixed Media Paper Quality: 5/5
Overall Grade Average: 77%
Great for beginners. Skip if you are a seasoned artist.
