Highlights from ninth-seeded TCU's 9-4 win over sixth-seeded Kansas State to begin Day Three of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship.
TCU’s Sam Myers opened the scoring, coming home on a sacrifice fly from Logan Maxwell. Myers led off the inning with a double, and Anthony Silva was able to advance Meyers to third on a bunt.
TCU jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the second with three consecutive RBIs from Luke Boyers, Karson Bowen and Brody Green.
The Wildcats went to the bullpen after pitcher Jackson Wentworth loaded the bases in the top of the fourth. TCU pushed the lead to 6-0 on a two-RBI single from Myers scoring Brunson and Boyers off Blake Dean who came on in relief for the Wildcats. Dean got out of a bases-loaded jam in the fourth to hold TCU at a 6-0 lead.
Kansas State got on the board in the bottom of the fourth with an RBI single from David Bishop scoring Brady Day. Two innings later, the Wildcats would cut the lead to three after a home run of the bat of Brendan Jones and Daniel Rivera's two-rbi single in the sixth, making it 7-4.
TCU would tack on two more runs in the seventh and eighth and hold on to win the game after a strong performance from Louis Rodriguez to close out the game.
Myers, Maxwell and Green all had multiple RBIs in the game.
Ben Abeldt got the win for TCU improving to 3-0 on the year while Rodriguez picked up his second save this season. Wentworth took the loss, dropping his record to 4-5 in 2024.
