Sade (pronounced "Shah-day") is my go-to singer whenever I need to be in a mellow mood. Her sultry, beautiful harmonies can soothe even the most savage of the beast. When I first heard her first release, "Hang On To Your Love", I figured it had the makings of a big hit, but crimially under-performed when it only made the Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100, making it to #102.
During her career, she had two Top 5 hits with "Smooth Operator" and "The Sweetest Taboo" (both songs also hit #1 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart) and hit the Top 40 three more times with "Never As Good As The First Time" (#20-BB/#23-CB), "Paradise" (#16-BB/#20-CB), and "No Ordinary Love" (#28-BB/#21).
"Your Love Is King", released in 1984, was her first charted single. The song peaked at #54 on the Billboard Hot 100 (should've charted higher), #52 on the Cash Box Top 100, #35 on the Billboard R&B chart, #8 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart, and #6 on the UK Singles chart. The song also charted in New Zealand (#2), Ireland (#7), Belgium (#38), Australia (#64), and Europe (#30).
This is the single 45 version.
