How to tell if you've been spiritually abused is a video I decided to make to speak up on behalf of all the victims of spiritual abuse who have been shamed and silenced.
There are some excellent books, videos and posts online to help us identify and heal, this subtle form of abuse. Its important that more awareness is raised because its a prevalent issue in many 'spiritual' organizations.
Spiritual abuse is really dangerous because it can severely damage a person. They may question, doubt, and even have thoughts of suicide because the abuse has made them feel that god has abandoned them. They even never want to have anything to do with god, religion or spirituality again.
Most people don't recognize that they have become enmeshed in a spiritually abusive system.
People who have been spiritually abused have been manipulated and their vulnerabilities exploited. The abuse has altered their definition of God. They question and are confused about their relationship with god. Even years after exiting a spiritually abusive system most people may be able to identify it or what happened to them. Its very stealth, nobody talks about their experiences because they've been programmed to keep quiet, not talk about it because it feels like they are betraying God, their family or the church.
