Michigan State University’s Seth Jacobson, assistant professor in the department of physics and astronomy, is the real-life version of Leonardo DiCaprio’s character, Dr. Randall Mindy, in the Netflix film “Don’t Look Up.” Jacobson is also a member of NASA’s Double Asteroid Redirection Test, or DART, the world’s first planetary defense space mission designed to test asteroid-deflection technology. The DART mission is humanity’s first planetary defense space mission with the goal of altering an asteroid’s orbit.
