Internet noise rages as to why Nikon created 1.8 primes as their starting point for the Z mount. It is clear to me that the 1.8's Z mount primes, in most cases don't have much to do with the 1.8 F mount version. And in the case of the 50mm 1.8S, this lens can stand in the same company of much more expensive F mount 1.4's.
