In this video we explain how to record the video signal from a HDMI source on your computer. In this case we are using a MacBook Pro, but the process works in Windows Computers in the same way.
What we need is a HDMI capture card, which we will connect over USB to our computer. The HDMI capture card will translate the video for processing on the computer.
In case your computer does already have an HDMI port built in, then this will very likely not work for this purpose. The reason is that your HDMI port is only laid out to work as a video output, not a video input.
For the video recording on the computer we are using the free software Quicktime Player. It provides the option to start a new movie recording. Once selected, we switch to video input to the USB video port.
When recording your video from HDMI, consider the huge amount of data that is being recorded. It is going to fill up the hasrddrive quick.
