Cats can see at night due to several special biological characteristics:

1. More rod cells:
A cat's eyes contain more rod cells than cone cells. Rod cells are very sensitive to low light, helping cats see better in dim conditions.

2. Tapetum lucidum:
This is a reflective layer behind the retina that enhances the ability to capture light. When light enters a cat's eye, it passes through the retina and reflects back from the tapetum lucidum, increasing the amount of light reaching the photoreceptor cells. This makes cats' eyes appear to glow in low light and helps them see better in the dark.

3. Large pupils:
Cats have pupils that can dilate very widely, allowing them to take in more light when necessary. This helps their eyes function effectively in low-light conditions.

These features allow cats to see clearly and hunt effectively in the dark.
