We introduce a familiar calculus-1-based optimization problem containing an objective function and a constraint equation. We show how to approach the same problem using multivariate calculus tools that allow one to solve many more optimization. We demonstrate the famous principle of Lagrange multipliers to find critical points—min and max points—to these problems.
