NSW Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant says a teenager has died from pneumococcal meningitis after testing positive to COVID as the state recorded seven deaths overnight.
“A 15-year-old from southwestern Sydney died at Sydney Children’s Hospital, I can confirm he died from pneumococcal meningitis, he also was a COVID positive case,” she said.
Dr Chant said the boy had been vaccinated against pneumococcal disease as a child.
The deaths of three men in their 80s, a woman in her 80s, a woman in her 70s, a man in his 70s, and a man in his 40s were also recorded.
Dr Chant said two of those who had died had received one dose of a vaccine.
