You mentioned that you have a baby girl who is about a month old, and you've been giving her a mix of breast milk and formula and noticed a change in her bowel habits. And this is pretty normal when you introduce formula, because babies who are exclusively breastfed have different stool than babies who are formula-fed, and if you mix the two, you'll probably get a mix of both. So babies that are exclusively breastfed can poop up to 8 to 12 times in a 24 hour period. They usually have a bowel movement after every feeding in the beginning, and it's loose, and it's yellowish in color, and even a little bit seedy. And formula-fed babies may only have just one bowel movement each day, and so it's a little more formed, maybe a little more green in color, and it has a little bit more of an odor to it when you compare it to a breastfed baby. So you mentioned that your baby's bowel movements slow down when you introduce formula, and this is normal. It may not necessarily be constipation, it just may be a change from the addition of formula.
Now you did mention that your baby has gone a day or more without having a bowel movement, and because she's only a month old, it would be best to bring all of these observations to the attention of your pediatrician. They can ask you more specific questions and decide if it is in deed due to the fact that she's having both breast milk and formula, or if there's something more to it. For example, when a baby this age goes a day or more without a bowel movement, we have to wonder if perhaps it's because they're not getting enough to eat. So the pediatrician can weigh her, and make sure she's gaining the appropriate amount of weight, and decide if any changes need to be made in what she's eating and how often she's eating.
