This Char Siu Sauce is really easy to make. It will stain absolutely anything so with this recipe of mine I’m giving a use with caution warning! Don’t stain the worktops etc

4 tbsp hoisin sauce
4 tbsp brown sugar
3 tbsp water
3 tbsp light soy sauce
2 tbsp oyster sauce
2 tbsp Chinese Shaoxing wine
2 tbsp honey – golden syrup
1 tbsp oil
1 tbsp gochujang
1 tsp garlic powder
½ – 1 tsp Chinese 5-spice powder
¼ tsp red food colour or 1 tbsp beetroot powder

optional
1 tbsp corn starch mixed with the water if cooking the ingredients for a thick sauce paste
