BHP’s offer to South African mining giant Anglo American was overnight lifted by almost $10 billion to just under $74 billion.
Anglo American has given BHP one week to improve the deal yet again and, in particular, to reconsider its idea of splitting off the South African iron ore and platinum businesses.
In a statement, BHP has said this offer is its final.
BHP has until May 29 to get an Anglo American deal across the line.
