More and more people have caught on to the importance of vitamin D3 for the immune system and are taking it as a supplement. Sometimes though, people take doses that are too high.
On several occasions I have seen doses of 50,000IU or more.
This is way too much and can lead to toxicity.
This is not medical advice, but in my practice I generally recommend between 2000 IU and 5000 IU Vitamin D3 daily for adults.
I take 5000 IU D3 (125mcg), together with vitamin K2 daily. My blood work shows between 50-70 ng/ml of 25-hydroxy vitamin D, which is upper mid range and in my opinion a good value.
It is important to check the label on your supplement. In my opinion it is rare to need doses higher than 5000IU or 125mcg daily of vitamin D3 for adults. As always please check with your doctor which dose is best for you.
