A US Capitol police officer has died and another is injured after a vehicle drove through a barrier on Constitution Avenue.
The driver rammed his car into the two officers and was shot dead by Capitol police after he jumped out of the vehicle with a knife.
No one is allowed to enter or leave the Capitol building and authorities have blocked all surrounding roads.
The second officer is in hospital and police have said the incident was not terror related.
