Carlos Zayas, M.D., is a transplant nephrologist and Professor of Medicine and Surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina. As a member of the MUSC Health Transplant Center, he will support the evaluation of pre-transplant patients and the care and management of post-transplant patients. His areas of interest and research include care of post-renal and pancreas patients, transplantation of Sickle Cell Anemia patients, management of transplant rejections, transplant infections, skin conditions, weight management issues and recurrent glomerulonephritis after transplantation.
He received his Medicine Doctorate Degree in 1990 from the University of Puerto Rico School in San Juan, Puerto Rico, his Post-Doctoral training (1994-1997) Fellowship in Renal Medicine (Transplant Nephrology and Research) at Emory University School of Medicine, Division of Nephrology in Atlanta GA. He is Board Certified Diplomat in Nephrology by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
Dr. Zayas served as medical director of the Emory Transplant Center, Piedmont Transplant Institute and Medical College of Georgia Renal and Pancreas Programs in Georgia. He has contributed to many local-institutional, regional and national committees and boards, and is a member of various scientific and professional societies including; International Society of Nephrology, Colegio de Médicos y Cirujanos de Puerto Rico, Member of the American Society of Transplant Physicians, Fellow of the American College of Physicians, Fellow of the American Society of Nephrology.
