Learn Access! The most important part of an Access database is the structure ... Tables, Fields, and Relationships. In this lesson, we start with 3 tables from the previous lesson and we create 7 more. As we go, we build relationships using the Primary Keys and Foreign Keys in our design, and layout the Relationships diagram. Learn Access by focusing on the structure first ... the rest is downhill if this is done right.

Key fields (Primary Keys and Foreign Keys) have the same name in the main table and in the related table so that it is easy to see them! Key fields are listed at the top of the field list.

Add Tracking Fields to your tables ... very easy to automatically store the date and time a record was added by using the Now() function as the Default Value for a field.

Create AutoNumber values using an Append Query.

Use an InputMask to display Phone numbers with symbols.

Switch between Tabbed Documents and Overlapping Windows by changing the Access Defaults.

Disable AutoCorrect, which is a multi-step process.

Use icons on a customized Quick Access Toolbar.

Learn how to layout the Relationships Diagram so that it is very easy to see what the database is tracking and how tables are related.
