Award-Winning designer Vivian Beer teams up with Producer Robert Daniel of The Annex, and Micah Evans of MIO design to share a fresh vision into High Design and Fine craft.
“This project started the moment Robert and I met. Every once in a while we are lucky enough to find colleagues who are perfectly aligned in vision and excitement. And that infectious excitement evolved into this. In this short we are not thinking of fine arts in the traditional sense but FINE as a defining characteristic in the work and way we want to share it; a descriptive of quality in attention to detail, craftsmanship and refinement in diverse creative practices.” –Vivian Beer Art Director
A master story teller Robert Daniels has brought the Streamliner series by Vivian Beer and the Decanter designs by Micha Evans together in a combination of fashion shoot, lifestyle narrative and most importantly to where they belong - in the home.
Vivian Beer’s sleek, abstracted metal furniture combines the aesthetic sensibilities of contemporary design, craft, and sculpture to create furniture that alter expectations of and interface with the domestic landscape. With a strong foundation in contemporary furniture design, her recent research into the history of American industry, architecture, and transportation—supported in part by a 2014 Research Fellowship at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum—adds intellectual rigor and specificity to her work. Her Streamliner series is a physical manifestation of the cultural and industrial history of her materials even as they serve as intellectual bridges for their users, bringing them to a new way of conceiving the built world through a luxurious deployment of the senses.
The MEO decanters are in one word - sexy. Not only are the proportions elegant but Evans developed a technique in glass affectionately named the “Jesus Seal” which allows the liquid to aerate, improving the flavor of any distilled liquor. Beauty and function married perfectly as a product of the unusual path this designer-maker has taken in his carrier. A self-taught glassworker Evans started his carrier in the sub culture of pipe design. A talent unseen by the art and craft world due to the taboo on these items, Micah was able to develop outside of academic and gallery settings.
Evans, Beer and Daniels are all dedicated to craftsmanship, function and beauty having an equal steak in their work and are proud to share this first of the Fine Arts Series videos to the public.
"To me, design in its most INSPIRING sense is the patterns that interconnect things. Whether formed by nature or nurtured by culture, it is these connections that most interest me in making work... And one of the reasons I find myself endlessly fascinated by the subtle and powerful relationship between ourselves, our environment, our culture and the things we make or use within it. The heart of this ideal in the arts and design is collaboration. I can’t wait to see where this one takes us next" -Vivian Beer
