Dr. Aubrey Monie Ph.D., M.M.T., M.Med.Sc., B.Sc. Physio. points out Scheurmann's disease, an exaggerated thoracic kyphosis, in one of his patients. This condition results in the posterior (back) of some vertebrae being taller than the anterior (front), thus making that whole region of the spine curve forward (a kyphosis). It cannot be reversed by forced mobilisation or high-velocity thrust (manipulation). The bone shape cannot be reversed. In fact, attempting to force it straight through exercises/hinging on it/foam roller/force, could damage structures in the spine e.g. ligaments, disc, facet joints, or the bone.
