It’s possible to play! But…
You have to make sure that your joints are prepared to do what it takes to play ✅
Here are 9 of the main reasons people experience joint pain or injuries when playing ☝🏽
Here are a few key things to focus on:
🙌🏼 Single leg balance and strength- balance helps to support the joints and you’ll be moving and reacting in different directions. You also want to be able to slow your body down when going for a ball.
🙌🏼 Fast movements- if you move slowly in daily life, your joints likely won’t appreciate moving quickly. Make sure to master movements slowly before adding speed to your training though.
🙌🏼 Stamina- especially when playing consecutive pickleball games, if your muscles fatigue quickly- muscle imbalances and compensations can happen. If you usually exercise for 30 minutes but go play for an hour or two, your muscles may not support you for the entire time.
🙌🏼 Warm up and cool down- make sure you warm up with gentle movements to lubricate your joints and complete gentle movement after instead of prolonged sitting which can increase pain and stiffness
