4-2-19 Houston officials confirmed that at least one person was killed in the explosion and subsequent fire at the KMCO chemical plant located off old Highway 90 in Crosby, Texas. A chemical called isobutylene, a colorless gas with a faint petroleum-like odor, ignited and exploded. The National Fire Protection Association says isobutylene can cause temporary incapacitation or residual injury. It burns readily, rapidly or completely vaporizes at atmospheric pressure and normal ambient temperature. Air Quality was at Good to Moderated by April 3rd. On Apr 2nd AQI: was (101 - 150) Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups. Although the general public is not likely to be affected at this AQI range, people with lung disease, older adults and children are at greater risk from exposure to ozone, whereas persons with heart and lung disease, older adults and children are at greater risk from the presence of particles in the air.
