Back in the day, gas stations used to give away stuff when you filled up or purchased so many gallons of gas. As a kid, I worked at a local Getty station in New Jersey during the late 60's. At the time, Getty only sold 92 Octane Leaded Premium (Hi Test) gasoline for the many high performance luxury & muscle cars with V8 engines. Like our competitors, at times there were promotional giveaways with fill ups. Later memorabilia was available from gas pump transistor radios, hats, glass sets, Hot Wheels with Getty logos, mugs, etc. Road maps were free. We offered full service such as checking tire air pressure, oil, transmission fluid, power brake & steering fluid, radiator and windshield fluid just for the asking. How times have changed. This commercial brought back fond memories, like gas at 35 cents a gallon. By the early 80's Getty began selling Unleaded 87 Octane gas in step with newer American & Foreign cars along with US Clean Air Standards.
