The First Bubble Barrier stops plastic from Amsterdam´s canals
The Great Bubble Barrier launched its first Bubble Barrier in Amsterdam - the first of many in the fight against riverine plastic pollution.
Amsterdam canals are connected to the River IJ, a large river that functions as the plastic highway to the North Sea. Hence the urgency to stop plastics from entering our seas.
The Bubble Barrier is a bubble screen that captures plastic out of the canals of Amsterdam making the most watery city in the world a global pioneer in the fight against plastic pollution.
The Bubble Barrier in Amsterdam is implemented by The Great Bubble Barrier and Waternet and commissioned by the Regional Water Authority Amstel, Gooi and Vecht, and the City of Amsterdam, in collaboration with van den Herik Sliedrecht, STOP! Micro Waste, Canadianpond, and the Plastic Soup Foundation.
An exciting collaboration and a first step to expand The Great Bubble Barrier’s mission worldwide. More at www.thegreatbubblebarrier.com.
