A man shot by police during the rioting in New Caledonia has died from his injuries, according to authorities he was one of multiple armed men who rammed into a car carrying military forces.
A second man was hit by gunfire and taken to hospital.
The death toll in the French territory since the rioting began has risen to eight, which includes two police officers.
