My name is Barbara Esses and I do events for a living. I'm Ruthie Hecht; I'm an event planner and I work with and for my mother. We're going to teach you the do's and don'ts for the perfect wedding. When a bride and groom decides to get married they have to decide who the officiant is going to be, when they take their vows. Clearly one has to get a marriage licence from the state one, where one is getting married. And one needs and officiant who is licensed by the state to sign it. Then one goes to see this officiant to discuss the wedding ceremony itself. The officiant may feel that he wants to do everything he or she and he does not want you to have any vows that you write by yourself. And then there officiants that are completely comfortable with a bride and groom writing their own vows. So if you want to write your own vows be very specific with that, when you meet the officiant, so that you know that he or she is really acceptable to that. And if you do, do it, make sure that you do it really well. And if you're not a good writer engage someone in your family or friends who is. Because the one thing you want to do is sound, speak as smart as you really are. SO make sure that the vows are written very, very well, there's absolutely wrong with using poetry, or something from a book. It's not copying. It's not any problem what so ever. And make sure what you say you practice, you enunciate, everyone can hear you clearly and that it sounds right coming from the heart.
