The public have been “brainwashed and indoctrinated” as the coronavirus alarmism seems to have no limits according to Sky News host Alan Jones.

He said while there have been 106 deaths in the nation, the government’s outlays have been greater than the combined federal government spending on education, defence, interest on public debt, transport and communication, public order and safety, and housing and community amenities.

“This coronavirus response will cost an estimated 3.3% of our GDP this year and 6.1% next year,” he said.

“To offset the government shutdown of the economy, our spending is estimated at almost 10.6% of GDP.

“This is more than anything proposed by any other developing or developed nation.”

"I am a super optimist, but make no mistake we are in serious territory".

The Australian's Adam Creighton discussed the economic ramifications of the pandemic and government lockdowns with Mr Jones.

Mr Creighton said most recessions "occur naturally" as part of the business cycle.

However, "for the first time in at least modern history, you've had governments around the world, not just here, try to shut down their economies".

"I believe in the naive belief, they can switch them back on relatively easily," he said.
