The hormonal IUDs are small T- shaped flexible contraceptive device inserted in the uterus. It releases a hormone called “levonorgesterol” or “progestin”, in the uterus that thickens the mucus in the cervix, making it harder for the sperm to move, hence stopping them to reach the egg. They also make the lining of uterus thinner making it more difficult for an egg to attach to it. These are long lasting and reversible contraceptives, which lasts for 5 years.
