Ὕμνος εις Ἑκάτην.
Εἰνοδίην Ἑκάτην κλῄιζω, τριοδῖτιν, ἐραννήν,
οὐρανίην, χθονίαν τε, καὶ εἰναλίην κροκόπεπλον,
τυμβιδίην, ψυχαῖς νεκύων μέτα βακχεύουσαν,
Πέρσειαν, φιλέρημον, ἀγαλλομένην ἐλάφοισιν,
νυκτερίην, σκυλακῖτιν, ἀμαιμάκετον βασίλειαν,
ταυροπόλον, παντὸς κόσμου κλειδοῦχον ἄνασσαν,
ἡγεμόνην, νύμφην, κουροτρόφον, οὐρεσιφοῖτιν,
λισσομένοις κούρην τελεταῖς ὁσίῃσι παρεῖναι,
βουκόλῳ εὐμενέουσαν ἀεὶ κεχαρηότι θυμῷ.
Hekate of the way, I call upon you, goddess of crossroads, lovely one,
heavenly, and of the earth, and of the sea, saffron-robed,
of the grave, revelling with the souls of the dead,
daughter of Perses, fond of wilderness, delighting in deer,
goddess of night, protectress of whelps, unconquerable queen,
drawn by bulls, mistress holding the keys of all the world,
governess, bride, nourisher of children, mountain-roaming,
may you be present, maiden, for the sacred mysteries,
to the herdsman ever kind, with gracious heart.
