What are you going to do after you quit teaching English abroad and have to get a REAL job, huh? Good gracious this get me all spun up. I heard this so many times over the years and I'm going to promise you unequivocally right now that if you plan, make contingency plans, and make contingency plans for your contingency plans... you will not ever have to worry about this unless you are just truly lazy and/or need someone to plan your life for you and hold your hand. Even if you fall into this category, there are still no guarantees! Company pension plans are largely a thing of the past and the 401k was invented in the US to take the burden off corporations and quietly screw the worker. Lay offs, downturns, downsizing, recessions.... these things happen! Life happens... take control, take charge, take the wheel ... and you'll love the way you perspective changes for the better. Shrug off these kinds of idiotic comments because they're grounded in ignorance and fear of the unknown. Teaching English in a foreign country comes with no real guarantees, but neither does life in general.
Spoiler alert: No one really knows what's going to happen in the future. Luck favors the prepared.
