Paignton Zoo in Devon is aiming to help save species from extinction by freezing samples of their genetic tissue.
The frozen samples provide a record of a species’ genetic material, which can be used to maintain genetic diversity in vulnerable or endangered populations and ensure their survival.
The zoo has partnered with scientific charity Nature’s SAFE, which has 80 species already banked in it’s laboratory in Shropshire.
