On Thursday, October 10, 2019, we welcomed Larissa Bailiff back.
French painter Édouard Manet (1832-1883) was not immune to the mania for all things Spanish–in fashion, art, and culture–that consumed Paris during the mid-19th century. Together we will examine and discuss how “Espagnolisme”–and the spirit of such artists as Diego Velazquez and Francisco Goya–not only infused the styles and subjects of many of Manet’s most iconic paintings, but allowed the artist to become the premier modernist of his era. About the Presenter
Larissa Bailiff is a specialist in modern French art and social history. Formerly an associate educator at MoMA, she continues to offer tours and courses at the museum. For the last three years, she has also worked for Boulevard Arts, an immersive arts technology company, where she creates cultural content for virtual and mixed reality platforms.
