US President Joe Biden delivered a warm welcome to Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson after his nation became the 32nd to join the NATO alliance.
The European nation joined NATO after it was delayed for 20 months, their application prompted by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
“America is a founding member of NATO,” he said.
“The military alliance of democratic nations, created after World War Two to prevent war and keep the peace.
“Today, we’ve made NATO stronger than ever – we welcomed Finland to the alliance last year, just this morning, Sweden officially joined.”
