Colonel Jim Corbett, explains the reasons that lead an animal to at times go against its natural hunting behavior, and a reader (or listener) of his stories or any individual interested in the natural world must endeavor to keep these in mind. This author's note appears at the beginning of his first book Man-Eaters Of Kumaon, which was first published in 1944, and is key to understanding behaviors in tigers that fall outside the established order of nature, dispelling some popular myths about tigers.
Also included are the author's prescient warning about habitat destruction and extermination of tigers. These passages are just an extension of Corbett's lasting legacy as a conservationist and his efforts in creating the National Park, now named in his honor.
