Women often appear as the subject of portraits in art of the Renaissance period. Discover how portrayals of women changed radically during this time, notably in the dynamic and “psychological” art of Leonardo da Vinci. This period saw the rise of Sofonisba Anguissola, a female painter who was regarded as a marvel by her contemporaries, and women patrons, who used rank and wealth to collect and display the most valued art of their time.
