Knock!! Knock!!
Who’s there?
Two unbeaten teams waiting to create history.
Yes, you read it right. Two unbeaten teams are up against each other in the final of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. Not a single team has won the title after remaining unbeaten in the competition. It will be either South Africa or India who will create history today by lifting the title.
This edition of T20 World Cup will surely hold a special place in every cricket fan’s heart. We have seen it all. Super Overs, Hat-Tricks, Upsets, Nail-biting contests, fiery spells, exceptional power-hitting, rain and all. The international cricket arrived in the United States of America in a grand fashion. The bowlers dominated the first half and the batters had to run for cover. As the tournament progressed and reached the next stage, the batters started finding it easier batting on the wickets in the West Indies. However, one thing is constant and that is the even contest between the bat and the ball. That’s the special thing about this edition of the T20 World Cup.
The ICC’s decision to organize the T20 World Cup in the United States worked wonders. We witnessed nail-biting contests in the States and it attracted number of people to this beautiful sport. Now, we have reached the ultimate stage and South Africa and India are at the summit, waiting to be crowned the champions. It will be all about putting on one final show to lift the title.
As far as the journey of both sides is considered, there is a lot of difference. South Africa have been part of plenty of close-fought contests but they have held their nerves and emerged victorious on every occasion. If we go by Aiden Markram, their skipper’s views, they are yet to put up an all-around effort. They were close to putting one when they brushed aside the spirited Afghans in their semi-final clash. But they will be hoping to keep their best for the final.
Speaking of keeping the best for the final, one name that immediately comes to mind is Virat Kohli. The modern-day great has looked a fish out of water at the top of the order in T20Is and has managed to score only 75 runs in seven matches at a meagre average of 10.71. Despite that, India have remained unbeaten in the competition and reached the final. They have put up solid all-around performances so far and will be hoping to put another for one final time today.
This is South African’s maiden T20 World Cup final. They have finally buried the semi-final ghosts and reached the final of a Men’s World Cup. All eyes will be on them on how they go about their business today. India, meanwhile, have reached their third final. They have a 50%-win record in final of T20 World Cup and will be hoping to lift the title after winning the inaugural edition way back in 2007. It promises to be a cracker of a contest
