Australian pro-democracy blogger Yang Hengjun will not appeal his suspended death sentence in China.
Dr Yang was handed a suspended death sentence earlier this month by a Beijing court.
In a statement, his family said he has waived his legal right to appeal because the process would delay the possibility of supervised medical care.
He is reported to be in bad health after more than five years in detention.
Foreign Minister Penny Wong says she respected the "difficult decision” and the Australian government would continue to advocate for him.
